CAPABLE
CAPABLE assists low-income seniors achieve improved independence, safety, and health. More than a decade of research shows that CAPABLE reduces the impact of functional impairment and disability, enhances motivation and self-efficacy, reduces health disparities, improves emotional health, and reduces hospitalizations and nursing home days.
CAPABLE is a program that sends a trained nurse, occupational therapist and handyman into the home to help seniors live longer and safely in their homes. This process has achieved exceptional results according to John Hopkins school of nursing in a population of low-income older adults on Medicaid and Medicare who participated in CAPABLE. Studies show that 75% of participants improved their self-care over the course of 5 months. Moreover, their mental health including Symptoms of depression, as well as the ability to perform activities of daily living such as grocery shopping and managing medications also improved.
